Remarkable Skin Rejuvénation Results

The treatment of choice for acne scars or signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity, and uneven pigmentation is the Sciton Profractional Resurfacing Laser.

The Sciton Profractional Laser is a revolutionary new treatment for Skin Rejuvénation that makes it possible for you to have healthy, younger looking skin with minimal post treatment down time. A single treatment can show significant improvement in skin texture and color while softening wrinkles.

How does the Sciton Profractional sytem Work?

The device uses an 2940 nm Erbium: Yag laser beam to deliver a therapeutic matrix of tiny beams of light energy (each about the size of a hair) to the top and mid layers of the skin with minimal discomfort. This results in...

• Immediate shrinkage of damaged skin
• Softening of fine lines and wrinkles
• Removal of age and sun spots
• New collagen production.  The thermal heat produced by the laser stimulate fibroblasts (cells naturally found in the skin) to produce more collagen in the deep layers for up to 6 months following treatment, rejuvenating the collagen matrix in the skin plumping the skin inside out

The laser uses "Fractional" technology which means that only a fraction of the skin surface is exposed to the laser beam, leaving untreated skin around each treated micro spot. This promotes fast natural healing and a short recovery time. The beneficial effects of the laser beam expands under the skin surface to stimulate new collagen production across the entire area. The innovative technology of the Sciton Profractional Laser minimizes discomfort during the treatment so that for most patients only require a topical anesthetic.   This treatment is much more comfortable than other CO2 fractional lasers which often require oral medications and anesthetic blocks.

What are the clinical benefits from this treatment?

• skin rejuvenation
• wrinkles, fine lines, deep lines around eyes and mouth
• acne scars and post traumatic scars
• pigmented lesions
• stretch marks?

This is a histologic slide showing the effects of the Sciton Profractional Erbium Laser at varying depths.  Due to a very efficient water absorption, the laser is able to make microscopic channels through the skin. This causes an immediate shrinkage of excess skin.  The laser beams also reach the deeper layers of skin whereby stimulating new collagen that is needed for skin rejuvenation.  The Erbium laser is also unique in that there is minimal bulk heating making it more comfortable than other fractional lasers using CO2.

Planning for your Sciton Profractional Laser Treatment

Prior to Treatment – Dr. Tang will discuss which areas of your skin will benefit from Sciton Profactional Laser treatments as well as the results you can expect. In most cases, the laser treatment can be safely performed on the face, neck, chest, and hands. Usually a single treatment produces satisfying results. If desired, a second treatment can be scheduled 8 weeks after the first.

The Treatment – The Sciton Profractional Laser is done in the comfort of the office setting. The areas to be treated are thoroughly washed and the skin is dried prior to treatment. Dr. Tang will apply a topical anesthetic for approximately 1 hour. No oral medications are required. During the treatment you will feel a warm to hot prinkly sensation. This is to be expected. Depending on the patient's problem, 1-2 passes of the laser treatment will be needed. Treatment time for a full face is approximately 30-60 minutes.

Post Treatment – You will have a slight burning sensation similar to a sunburn, which lasts several hours. Your skin will also feel tight but there will be no pain.  There will be some mild swelling and som pin point bleeding which quickly dries.  Your skin will also feel tight.  Your skin will show a fine pinpoint like pattern as a result of therapeutic beams. Overall, there will be no pain.  The area will be cleaned and cooled and aquaphor gel will be applied.
