Are there different kinds of Botox? Before answering this question, something must first be clarified regarding the use of this word. When patients mention Botox, they may not realize they’re referring to the name of a product. Botox is the product name for Botulinum toxin A, which is manufactured by Allergan. Due to Botox’s popularity in the last decade as a simple, non-surgical treatment for reducing facial creases, the word is now used interchangeably to refer to any Botulinum toxin product. However, Botox isn’t the only Botulinum toxin product in the market.
Botulinum Toxin Products
Here at Rejuvé, aside from Botox, we offer Dysport as well, another Botulinum toxin A product. The other products in the market are Xeomin and Myobloc, with the latter being the only Botulinum toxin B product. With that said, the correct question to ask then is, “are there different kinds of Botulinum toxin products?” rather than “Are there different kinds of Botox?”
As mentioned, Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are all Botulinum toxin A products, while Myoboloc is the only Botulinum toxin B product in the market. Currently, only Types A and B are approved for medical purposes. Between the Type A and B products, only Type A is approved by the FDA and sees wide use among physicians because Type B has shown no distinct advantages. Among the Type A products, their differences are not as significant, at least in terms of their effectiveness in treating frown lines and wrinkles. Most of their differences will be from a physician’s standpoint.
To this day, Botulinum toxin products remain one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the country, both for men and women from different age groups.
