If the wrinkles and fine lines on your face are making you self-conscious, undergoing the Botox treatment is a great way to conceal the symptoms of aging skin. As with any cosmetic procedure, however, knowing how to properly prepare for your Botox session can go a long way in ensuring you get the most out of the experience.
With that in mind, here are 6 things you can do to prepare for your Botox treatment.
1. Do your research
While Botox is an FDA-approved treatment for aging facial skin, it’s still a good idea to know as much as you can about it. Only once you’ve familiarized yourself with all the details—such as its effects, benefits, procedure, and possible side effects—will you know whether or not it’s the right treatment for you. Thorough knowledge of the procedure will also help you mentally prepare yourself for it.
2. Plan your appointment
If this will be your first Botox treatment, then your appointment should be scheduled on a non-busy day to allow you lots of time to rest afterward. Once you’re used to the procedure, you can have it anytime you wish. Also, if you routinely exercise you should exercise before your treatment because you will not be able to exercise afterward just for that day.
3. Consult your physician
Your doctor will speak with you before you undergo the Botox treatment, so use the opportunity to ask them any questions you may have about the procedure.
4. Avoid certain medications
You must discuss any medications you’re on with your physician. Certain medications, including ibuprofen, aspirin, Naprosyn, Excedrin, and blood thinners and vitamins like garlic, ginger, and gingko can increase your risk of bruising with Botox, so avoid taking them a 7 days before your Botox treatment.
5. Wash your face
Getting Botox injections while your face is oily and greasy can result in an acne outbreak. Most doctors will use an antiseptic to wash your face before injecting you with Botox. Nevertheless, thoroughly cleaning your face with soap and water before leaving for the clinic will minimize any potential risks.
6. Take proactive measures to prevent bruising
A side effect commonly associated with Botox is bruising. To minimize the risk of its occurrence, apply a natural cream or essential oil such as Arnica to your face 2 days 2 times a day before your session. You should also avoid cigarettes. Smoking in itself is bad for your skin, but smoking days before your Botox treatment can increase the chances of bruising.
The Botox treatment should be administered only by a certified and experienced physician.
