An FDA-approved non-surgical cosmetic treatment, Ultherapy results in tighter, smoother, and younger-looking skin in the brow, chin, neck, and décolletage areas. If you want to maintain your beautiful, rejuvenated appearance, however, you have to watch what you eat.
The contents of a poor-quality diet can accelerate skin aging. Trans fats found in some foods, for example, raises the skin’s vulnerability to sun damage, making you more susceptible to premature skin aging and skin cancer. Then you have processed carbohydrates and sugar, which can harm your skin’s collagen—the protein that keeps your skin elastic and wrinkle-free.
To maintain your Ultherapy results, limit your intake of the following foods:
1. Fried, salty foods
Fried chicken, French fries, potato chips, and the like are best kept to a minimum. When deep-fried in oil, such foods release free radicals. These unstable atoms are potentially harmful to skin cells, as they encourage chemical processes that ultimately weaken skin elasticity.
Furthermore, salt absorbs water, so salty foods can leave your cells dehydrated and more likely to wrinkle. These foods also contain the aforementioned trans fats.
Prolong your Ultherapy results by keeping an eye on food labels; avoid foods with “vegetable shortening” and “partially hydrogenated oils.”
2. Processed meats
Sausages, hot dogs, bacon, pepperoni, and similar processed meats are packed with saturated fats, sodium, and sulfites, all of which can lead to inflammation and thus skin dehydration and the weakening of collagen.
In the right amounts, saturated fats are good for you, so keep your meats as lean as possible to keep enjoying your Ultherapy results. Chicken and turkey can also do wonders for collagen production.
3. Sugary foods
Pastries and baked goods such as doughnuts, cookies, pies, and cakes are chockful of sugars that have been associated with acne and the early formation of wrinkles. Avoid sticky candies and milk chocolates, as well; opt for dark chocolate if you’re craving a sweet snack.
4. Dairy
Limit your consumption of specific dairy products to prolong your Ultherapy results. Studies have
demonstrated that margarine consumers are more likely to develop wrinkles earlier and experience skin damage than non-consumers because they contain.transfats.
Although dairy may contain a variety of nutritional benefits such as protein and calcium dairy may lead to an increased risk of inflammation and thus premature aging especially in people who have an intolerance to it.
To maintain your Ultherapy results, make sure your diet includes fatty fish such as salmon and mackerel; orange and yellow fruits and vegetables such as apricots and carrots; leafy green vegetables like spinach; peas, beans, and lentils; berries; tomatoes; and nuts.
