Botox Treatment Basics for First-time Patients: 3 More Things to Know

Men and women who have been considering undergoing a Botox treatment for a while now will have a few lingering questions on their minds. These questions, arguably, could be the very reason why they remain indecisive about whether or not to go through with the procedure.

If you’ve done your research, you might have come across these five commonly mentioned facts about Botox injections:

  • It’s non-invasive
  • It temporarily prevents wrinkles from appearing by paralyzing the muscles that cause them to appear
  • It’s also known as a “lunch break procedure” because it can be completed in less than 30 minutes, which means you can have it during your lunch break
  • Results last about three to four months
  • Forehead lines, “11’s” between the eyebrows (frown lines), crow’s feet (wrinkles around the eyes) is the commonly treated skin issues

Are there other things first-time patients need to know about their Botox treatment? Yes; several more. Here are five of them:

1. You won’t be able to move the treated area/s

Patients who have done their research should already know how Botox works; that it temporarily paralyzes the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles to appear. “Temporarily paralyzed muscles,” naturally, won’t be able to make their usual movements when you make your facial expressions but first-time patients still get surprised when they try to raise their eyebrows, for instance, and find that they aren’t able to do so. However, the dose of Botox can be lessened to allow for some natural movement of the muscle.

As the effects of the Botox treatment wear off, you will begin to experience movement in the treated areas again.

2. Results aren’t immediate

As with any medication, you will need to let it do its job first before you can experience results; it’s the same with Botox. Patients who have been briefed by their doctor about the basics of a Botox treatment still expect to see results immediately after leaving the clinic, perhaps thinking they will have a different and quicker reaction to the toxin.

Botox results usually begin to manifest on Day three or five following treatment, but optimal results are achieved about two weeks later.

3. It shouldn’t change your appearance

One of the things that first-time patients are afraid of is looking different after their Botox treatment, perhaps thinking about the dreaded “frozen look.” When administered correctly, you can rest assured that Botox won’t change your appearance at all, save for the disappearance of a few, once-noticeable wrinkles and lines. This is why aestheticians and doctors strongly warn against Botox parties, going the DIY route with Botox injections, or having them at an affordable (too good to be true) yet unknown clinic.
