If this your first time to undergo Botox treatment, you will most likely have a few lingering questions in your mind. This is but natural for any procedure, cosmetic or medical. These questions may elicit fear or make you feel hesitant about receiving Botox injections. To alleviate your fears, we’ve taken the time to answer the top three most commonly asked questions about Botox treatment. These are:
1. What are the specific facial wrinkles that Botox injections target?
Botox injections target wrinkles known as dynamic wrinkles. These are wrinkles that appear with facial muscle movements such as frown lines, forehead lines, and “smile” lines also known as crow’s feet. The injected medication works to temporarily paralyze the muscles, thereby preventing the said lines from appearing every time you smile, make a face, frown, or do any of your facial expressions.
2. How many times can I have Botox injections?
As with any cosmetic procedure, the answer here will largely depend on your physiology and how your body reacts to the treatment. Usually, first-time results last anywhere from three to four months, although in some patients, results last until six months. If, within this period, you begin to notice the gradual appearance of the same lines, consult with your doctor about going for another round of Botox treatment. If you receive the injections quite regularly, meaning, you undergo treatment to maintain your appearance (every three, four or six months), over time, you will need fewer Botox injections, and the results may last longer than previous ones.
3. Botox or dermal fillers?
If your concerned about static wrinkles—or wrinkles that are present and visible when your face is at rest, your best option could be dermal fillers. However, if you’re more concerned about the dynamic wrinkles mentioned above, then Botox treatment is more ideal for you. Some patients choose to combine Botox injections with dermal fillers. Ask your doctor if you’re a good candidate for both.
