Botox treatments are preferred by patients, men and women alike, all over the world because they are non-surgical and non-invasive, pain-free (save for a little sting some patients experience when the needle is inserted), and more importantly, they effectively smoothen dynamic lines and wrinkles that appear on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes and mouth every time you smile, frown, squint your eyes, or do other facial movements.
Despite their popularity, some patients are still wary about Botox cosmetic treatments because they feel it puts their health at risk since it is a type of toxin that can potentially poison them. To put your mind at ease, here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about Botox treatments:
Isn’t it risky to undergo a Botox cosmetic treatment?
No, it’s not risky at all because in general, Botox treatments are safe provided they are diluted and administered by a licensed and experienced doctor. This is why it’s important to check not only the experience and eligibility of the doctor you’re looking to receive the injections from, but also to check their success and satisfaction rating.
The botulinum toxin from which Botox is derived may cause botulism food poisoning, but the toxin used for Botox injections are purified toxins that have passed the FDA’s safety standards.
Do Botox treatments give natural-looking results?
Yes, they do; but again, this all depends on the doctor or aesthetician administering the injections. If the toxin isn’t properly diluted, it can result in too much or too little of the toxin injected into the target areas. Too much of the toxin can result in a frozen look, among other things, and too little of it could mean you won’t get the smoother wrinkles and lines you were aiming for.
Additionally, if your Botox cosmetic treatments aren’t properly spaced, it could also result in a frozen look. Make sure to receive follow-up treatments at least three to four months after your previous treatment, or as recommended by your doctor.
What happens when I stop receiving Botox injections?
Once you stop your Botox treatments, the same dynamic lines and wrinkles will appear. Over time, these may develop into static wrinkles.
