Oftentimes, results can be seen after 2 to 6 injections. The best part – a Kybella treatment isn’t a temporary fix; it can offer permanent results! Read on to learn more about this new chin fat reduction treatment.
What is submental fullness?
Submental fullness is a gathering of excess fat beneath the chin, commonly known as “double chin.” It can be something you’ve had your whole life due to genetics, or start to appear as you get older or if you gain weight.
How does Kybella treatment work?
Kybella is an easy alternative to going ‘under the knife’ because the procedure can be performed in 15 to 20 minutes with a simple injection. This results in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin, revealing an improved chin profile. The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella destroys fat cells that, once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat.
How many treatments for chin fat reduction will I need?
Dr. Tang will create a tailored double chin removal, non-surgical treatment plan based on your chin profile. At each treatment, you will be given multiple small injections under your chin. You may receive up to 6 treatment sessions, spaced at least one month apart. Many patients experience visible results in 2 to 4 Kybella treatments. 59% of patients received six treatments in clinical studies.
How long will the double chin treatment results last?
Unlike other superior facial contouring injectables, such as Restylane and Juvéderm, Kybella treatment is unique because it causes destruction of fat cells under the chin once injected. Once fat cells are destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat again. The best part – after reaching your desired goal, no further double chin treatment is expected.
What are the possible side effects of a double chin removal non-surgical treatment?
As with other injectable treatments, side effects can occur. In the research study that led to FDA approval of KYBELLA®, the temporary side effects noted were swelling, pain, numbness, redness, and areas of hardness around the chin fat removal treatment area. Bruising is always a potential side effect, but this can be minimized by avoiding omega-3s, gingko, garlic, red wine, and aspirin, ibuprofen, Aleve, and other NSAIDs for seven days before your chin fat reduction appointment. In addition, there is a possible risk of trouble swallowing (which tends to resolve on its own in about three days) as well as temporary nerve damage to the jaw, causing an uneven smile. In clinical studies, the incidence of nerve injuries was extremely low, but all cases of nerve issues resolved spontaneously, and there was no permanent nerve paralysis or swallowing issues. The best part is that Kybella treatment is an excellent alternative to cosmetic surgery.
Is Kybella double chin treatment or chin fat removal FDA approved?
Yes. Kybella was FDA approved in April 2015 for the treatment of submental fullness, the fat below the chin.
Is Kybella safe?
Kybella treatment has been the focus of a global clinical development program involving over 20 clinical studies with more than 2,600 patients worldwide, of which over 1,600 have been treated with Kybella.
