How LLLT Works?
- Lasers are said to work by converting ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) to ADP (Adenosine Diphosphate),
releasing energy and causing cellular metabolic changes. - During this process, additional nutrients and oxygen are provided to the scalp assisting the normal
chemical processes performed by those cells, increasing overall blood circulation. - The laser penetrates the tissues of the scalp which stimulates the micro-circulation of the blood supply.
- It supports cell metabolism and synthesizes protein. This process is believed to break down DHT-dihydrotestosterone, the male hormone that causes hair loss.
- Causes a reduction in inflammation.
- Stimulates and reverses miniaturized hair follicles.
- Promotes a, fuller, thicker, shinier, and healthier looking hair.
- Normalizing sebum in the scalp – either too oily or too dry.
Studies by Dr. Michael Hamblin, associate professor of Laser Medicine at Harvard have been shown LLLT to:
1. Increase Blood Flow in the Scalp
2. Increase cellular activity in the scalp, bringing nutrients into cell while releasing toxins
3. Stimulate the Arrector Pili muscle to increase support of the hair shaft
4. Normalize sebaceous activity
5. Stimulate hair follicles and reverse “miniaturization”
What to Expect?
Patients Must Understand:
- LLLT is Not a Quick Fix
– Hair Loss happens gradually, expect loss to be reversed gradually - LLLT is a Process
– Recent studies confirm that the change becomes apparent between 8-12 weeks
– As the growth cycle of a healthy hair is 1000 day, it can take many months to return weak hair to healthy hair
Stopping Excessive Loss – the most important goal
LLLT – FAQs
What is LLLT?
LLLT is an acronym for Low Level Light Therapy. This refers to a therapy that utilizes RED laser or light energy below a specific energy threshold and within a specific wavelength. LLLT stimulates the follicles, improves cell metabolism and reverses hair miniaturization. Results – thicker hair, more hair, and stablization of hair loss. Laser devices used for LLLT are also referred to as cold lasers. LLLT devices produce no heat, are safe and cannot burn or injure the skin. LLLT is the most clinically studied hair loss treatments in the world.
Do physicians advise the use of LLLT for hair growth?
Yes, Medical Doctors, including dermatologists, in the United States, Europe and Asia prescribe the Grow Laser 272® for use with male & female patients suffering from androgenetic alopecia. In fact LLLT it is the #1 physician recommended treatment for hair growth at home.
Do all LLLT devices use laser and LED together? Are both the same?
Most LLLT devices use either LEDs or Lasers. LED light doesn’t penetrate to the hair follicle level and is also diffused, hence not that effective. All the top clinical research and reports done on LLLT show that true laser diodes are much more effective. Many helmet type devices use a combination of LED and Laser and this can decrease the power and effectiveness of the devices. LED diodes are much cheaper than laser diodes – hence companies use LED to reduce cost. But you must ensure that you choose a true laser diode device for good results.
Grow laser 272 uses true-medical grade lasers because the output penetrates deeper, better and is clinically proven to be therapeutic for their specific purpose. Laser light does not spread as much as LEDs over the same distance, which allows lasers to penetrate tissue to a deeper level with higher concentration. For photobiomodulation therapy, the farther the light is from the target, the less intense and less effective the treatment will be. For light therapy to be effective, it needs to reach the cells that respond well to photobiomodulation therapy.
LASER stands for Light Amplification by Stimulation of Emitted Radiation – This simply means that a source of light is amplified within a gain medium and emitted in a specific way. LASER produces a very intense beam of light which has the following properties:
- Monochromatic (meaning it consists of one wavelength)
- Coherent (meaning all parts are in phase)
- Collimated (meaning all parts travel in one and same direction)
LED stands for Light-emitting Diode– And it’s pretty much just that. A diode that emits light when electricity passes through it. Often in pretty colors. LED light can produce collimated light (with a focusing lens) but not coherent light thus they do not concentrate all their power in a coherent beam. Laser diodes by definition produce effective collimated and coherent light output.
